About ICOM SUSTAIN

ICOM SUSTAIN is the ICOM International Committee on Museums and Sustainable Development.

It was proposed to the ICOM Executive Board in 2023 as a further development of the Sustainability Working Group, which operated from 2018 to 2022, to mainstream the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change across its range of activities.

ICOM SUSTAIN was approved by the ICOM Executive Board to become an international committee in 2023 and elected its first board in its first assembly meeting in April 2024, also approving its bylaws on the same date.

SUSTAIN MANDATE

The mandate of ICOM SUSTAIN is to assist ICOM in achieving a sustainable and resilient pathway to the future through the implementation of ICOM´s Action Plan on Sustainability, supporting existing and fostering new sustainable development initiatives across ICOM and its membership founded on the 5Ps of the UN´s Agenda 2030, People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership. The Action Plan is designed as a framework to be appropriated by ICOM national and international committees and provides the means for committees to take up the challenge of addressing the climate emergency and supporting sustainable development through knowledge sharing, networks, commitment, and concrete action.
